StackHawk has raised $12 million for revolutionizing API security through shift-left security strategies that tackle application bugs early in AI-driven development, setting new benchmarks in cybersecurity innovation.
The funding round is backed by Sapphire and Costanoa Ventures. This latest funding will help accelerate the delivery of tools to eliminate application bugs before they reach production, an urgent need as developers deploy code faster than ever.
“We’re seeing our customers embrace AI-driven development tools like Cursor and ship new applications faster than ever,” said Joni Klippert, CEO and Co-Founder of StackHawk.
AI accelerates software delivery, exposing serious cracks in traditional security models. StackHawk addresses these by embedding security testing directly into the development pipeline, giving engineers the power to detect and fix application bugs at every stage. This shift-left security approach not only boosts productivity but also narrows the growing cybersecurity gap.
“Security professionals were already outnumbered by developers 100:1 and struggling to keep up with the backlog of issues – we need new solutions to help engineering teams identify the most important security issues and help engineers actually fix those issues being generated by the speed of AI,” added Joni Klippert.
Funding Fuels Growth in Sensitive Industries
The $12 million funding round, bringing StackHawk’s total to $47.3 million, will enable rapid development of new features. The company aims to simplify secure scaling for industries like healthcare and fintech, where data protection remains critical. With APIs now accounting for 71 percent of internet traffic, proactive security is not optional—it’s essential.
StackHawk recently won the Outstanding API Security Platform award at RSA 2025, an honor presented by Cyber Defense Magazine at the Global Infosec Awards. This recognition cements its position as a cybersecurity innovation leader, helping teams push secure, reliable code even in fast-paced, AI-driven environments.
“StackHawk is the only API security solution that ensures the most important vulnerabilities are identified and addressed during the development stage of software delivery, before they are shipped to production and can impact customers,” said Greg Sands, Founder and Managing Partner at Costanoa Ventures. “They are in the ideal position to innovate with new solutions that ensure enterprises maintain a strong security posture in the age of AI.”
Led by CEO and Co-Founder Joni Klippert, StackHawk combines deep expertise in security and DevOps. The platform offers unparalleled visibility for security teams and seamless testing capabilities for developers. Sapphire and Costanoa Ventures, who also led StackHawk’s Series B in 2022, continue to invest in their vision of putting cybersecurity in the hands of engineers.
