Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s artificial intelligence entertainment firm, Deep Voodoo, has received a $20 million investment headed by Connect Ventures.
The adult animated comedy series South Park, which has been airing since 1997 and just ended its 25th season, was created by Trey Parker and Matt Stones.
The funding will hasten the development of Deep Voodoo’s cutting-edge deep fake technology, affordable visual effects services, and unique synthetic media initiatives.
The investment made by Connect Ventures is the first outside funding that Deep Voodoo has received. Prior to this financing round, Deep Voodoo’s R&D was fully funded by Parker and Stone’s independent entertainment firm, Park County.
“We stumbled upon this amazing technology and ended up recruiting the best deepfake artists in the world,” said Matt Stone.
“We are psyched to share their brilliance with the Hollywood creative community,” added Matt.
Deepfakes are videos that imitate the appearance
Early in 2020, Deep Voodoo started developing the world’s most advanced proprietary deep fake technology. Parker and Stone gathered the top deep fake artists worldwide for a feature film project they worked on.
Deepfakes are videos that imitate another person’s face or look, and the technology has alarmed deception specialists. It seems the expression was initially used on Reddit.
When the COVID-19 outbreak forced a suspension of production, they swiftly switched to creating the best deep fake tools available today.
“Deep Voodoo has established itself as a leading synthetic media technology platform that has already impacted traditional entertainment. Deep Voodoo uses artificial intelligence to support productions in innovative ways that are faster and more cost effective than traditional VFX technology,” said Michael Blank of Connect Ventures.
“Connect Ventures is thrilled to lead the investment in Deep Voodoo, providing unique access to CAA and NEA’s resources and relationships,” he added.
Deep Voodoo is now making its unmatched face-swapping visual effects available to artists, producers, and creators all over the world thanks to an investment from Connect Ventures.
